For the first time in a long time, the plans for the camp are being made in full after the long closures and the applied carnatinas. It's time to dust off your equipment and start placing orders for camping equipment that needs replacement or refurbishment. Unfortunately, the global supply chain problems experienced due to the pandemic make it difficult to get the hardware of the quality and price you want as quickly and easily as you are used to. Luckily, there are some great ideas and products out there to help you avoid these problems and be fully prepared for your camp for the upcoming season.

Why did global supply chain problems occur?

The global pandemic has caused factories worldwide to close and/or operate with limited staff, which has significantly reduced production volumes for extended periods of time.

Sudden demand for outdoor equipment due to increased participation in outdoor activities is putting extra pressure on the already constrained supply chain.

Rising fuel costs, coupled with bottleneck transportation options, quickly increased freight costs and lengthened shipping timelines.

War, geopolitical issues, and different national COVID-19 policies continue to make it difficult for brands and manufacturers to successfully plan ahead.

"Global scheduling reliability" data for all industries, which measures a company's ability to plan and stick to production and delivery times, has dropped from around 70 percent before the pandemic to as low as 30 percent. This means that even if a brand tries to plan ahead, only 30 percent of the time things go according to plan. These disruptions, which started with the pandemic in 2020 and are expected to be put on track as the supply chain recovers, but will continue for many more years, affect all of us individually.

What can you do to minimize the impact of these worldwide problems for your camps during this upcoming period?

Invest in quality equipment. Buy good, quality, and qualified equipment that is repairable and covered by a year-long warranty, minimizing the need for last-minute parts replacement, with no preconditions for customer satisfaction.

Planning and ordering ahead is one of the best options. Some key camping essential items can take 6-12 months (sometimes more) to be delivered. That means ordering the items you need next summer as early as possible, in the fall or spring.

Order a pre-season or pre-order for next season! Pre-orders for many brands can be easily placed with no minimum orders.

If you have enough information about the brands and models of your equipment, you can complete your camping inventory with products from other brands but in stock.

Repairing your used equipment is an option. You can educate yourself on equipment maintenance and how to repair hard-to-replace parts. You can purchase repair and patch kits, or contact the manufacturer to request support for repairing or renewing your favorite equipment.
